Sudanese Turku Assailant Sentenced to 1,4 Years of Imprisonment

Sudanese Turku Assailant has been sentenced to 1.4 years of unconditional imprisonment for assaults that took place in downtown Turku in August. The verdict was delivered on November 13, 2015.

These assaults, which occurred in a public area, have garnered significant public attention, as evidenced by the high number of reads.

The conviction is related to a violent incident involving multiple victims. One of the assaults was particularly severe, with the Sudanese man reportedly kicking an unconscious person on the ground, resulting in a brain injury for the victim. Despite the defense's request for a conditional sentence due to him being a minor at the time—17 years old—there are suspicions that he is actually over 20.

Originally from Sudan, the man is now a Finnish citizen residing in Helsinki. On the night of the incident, he assaulted four different individuals and was subsequently charged with five separate offenses. After rendering one victim unconscious, he continued to kick the victim and tore off his shirt in a display of dominance. The victim has suffered significant consequences, including an inability to drive for two months.

This is not his first brush with the law; he has previously received four conditional sentences for similar offenses. Despite his defense team's arguments, the severity of this incident and his prior record led the prosecution to seek a sentence of over two years of unconditional imprisonment.

Standing nearly two meters tall and in formidable physical condition, the man posed a significant threat during the assaults. The court's decision to impose an unconditional prison sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and aims to address the recurrent nature of his violent behavior.
