Restaurant Discriminates Against Disabled Person

The Saturday was supposed to be a day of celebration for 19-year-old Kalle Havumäki. A good friend had come all the way from Rovaniemi, and the boys were heading to a concert at Nosturi in Helsinki. However, what stuck in their minds the most from that evening was disappointment, as a Helsinki restaurant rudely turned them away at the door.
Before the concert, Havumäki and his friend had eaten burgers and drank sodas at a fast-food restaurant. Neither of them had consumed any alcohol.
With some time left before the Mokoma band's concert, the young men decided to sit for a while at the Hemingway's restaurant, located across from Nosturi. At the restaurant's entrance, Havumäki stumbled slightly, as he sometimes does due to his disability. A restaurant employee noticed the stumbling and interpreted it as a sign that the young men were intoxicated.
– He said that the entrance was so unsteady that you are not welcome here, recounts Kalle's mother, TV1 news anchor Marjukka Havumäki.
